Policies & Procedures

At Les’s Berlin Boat Rentals, safety is our highest priority. We are dedicated to providing thorough vessel operation and safety instructions in order for a safe and fun boating experience on Berlin Lake!

Please read the Ohio Boat Operators Guide to familiarize yourself with Ohio’s laws and regulations surrounding boat operation.

 You can also take an ODNR approved Ohio Boating License Course to get your permanent boating license online.

We recommend booking online ahead of time to ensure availability for your desired rental vessel at Les's. We do accept walk ins Wednesday-Sunday, but rentals may be limited depending on the number of rental requests.

Note: On-site, a temporary Boater’s License exam for those born after 1982 is available. If you don't yet have a permanent Ohio boating certificate and you were born after 1982, you are permitted to take the temporary boater's license test.

A boat on Berlin Lake, which spans across Northeast Ohio, has a tan cover shading a beige driver's seat. The boat has a vinyl seat that is tan, and an area at the back of the boat for fishing.

Boater's License

You must be at least 21 years of age with a valid driver license to rent and operate a boating vessel. Anyone born on or after January 1st 1982, will be required to have a boater's license.

If you do not have a boaters license and still would like to rent a pontoon or jet ski, you have the option to take the State of Ohio’s Temporary Boaters License Exam upon arrival. This is a 10 question test that is provided to you prior to your rental start time. A passing score of 90% or better is required.

We encourage renters to take the online boaters license exam, or review the linked material from the state of Ohio Boaters Guide prior to arrival. This will help ensure that your boating experience is seamless.

Weather & Cancellation Policy

We want your experience to be smooth and stress-free. Please review our policy before booking:

Weather

No refunds are issued for early returns due to weather. It is the renters responsibility to monitor weather conditions and plan accordingly.

Flexibility Fee (Optional Add-On)

Add our $20 Flexibility Fee at booking for maximum flexibility:

  • Cancel up to 24 hours before your reservation for a 100% refund, OR

  • Reschedule to another date within the current season

  • No-shows will still be charged the full rental amount

This option must be selected at the time of booking and is non-refundable.

Standard Reservations (No Flexibility Fee)

More than 72 hours before your rental:

  • Cancel for a $75 fee, OR

  • Reschedule to another date within the current season (no fee)

24–72 hours before your rental:

  • Rescheduling allowed (no fee)

  • Cancellations subject to fees

Within 24 hours of your rental:

  • No cancellations or refunds

  • Full rental amount will be charged

No-shows:

  • Charged the full rental amount

Same-Day or Last-Minute Bookings (<24 hours)

  • No cancellations, refunds, or changes allowed

Peak Holiday Dates (No Exceptions)

Late Arrival Policy

Please plan to arrive 30-40 minutes early to complete the temporary boaters license exam, sign paperwork and receive instructions on equipment operation. Your rental time begins and ends within the scheduled window listed on your booking confirmation. We want you to get your full amount of time on the water so please arrive early. You are required to have the equipment at our docks by the end time listed on your rental confirmation. A late fee will apply if rental equipment is more than 10 minutes late.

Damage Policy

Damage to our vessels will result in a minimum charge of $250 per motorized watercraft. This will apply for any damages that occur during the rental period, including collisions with other watercraft, beaching, docking, and other related incidents. This fee covers expenses for scratches, dents, rips, toon or hull punctures and any other damages to the vessel and its contents. Vessels are inspected prior to departure and upon arrival.

A damage deposit will be applied to your card upon arrival. This shows up as a hold of $250.00. Once the vessel is returned free of damages, the hold will be released.
